1892 Morgan Silver Dollar — Philadelphia Mint
1892 Morgan Silver Dollar — Philadelphia Mint
Own a classic piece of American numismatic history with this 1892 Morgan Silver Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint during the final decade of the 19th century.
Designed by George T. Morgan, the Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878 and became one of the most iconic and widely collected coins in United States history. The series represents an important era of American silver mining, westward expansion, and economic development.
The obverse features a detailed left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with cotton blossoms, wheat, and leaves. The inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM appears above Liberty, with thirteen stars surrounding the lower portion of the design and the date 1892 positioned beneath the portrait.
The reverse displays a majestic bald eagle with outstretched wings, holding arrows and an olive branch, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST complete the classic design.
The 1892 Philadelphia issue is particularly appealing to collectors because of its relatively modest original mintage compared with many other Morgan Dollar dates. As a better-date Philadelphia issue, it holds an important place in date-and-mint-mark collections.
Struck in 90% silver, the 1892 Morgan Dollar combines precious-metal content, classic American artistry, and historical significance.
