1927 Peace Silver Dollar — Philadelphia Mint
1927 Peace Silver Dollar — Philadelphia Mint
Own a classic piece of American numismatic history with this 1927 Peace Silver Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint during the prosperous and transformative decade of the Roaring Twenties.
The Peace Dollar series was originally produced from 1921 through 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. Introduced following World War I, the design was intended to commemorate the restoration of peace and reflect the nation's hopes for a more peaceful future.
Designed by renowned Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the Peace Dollar features one of the most celebrated portraits of Liberty in American coinage.
The obverse displays a striking left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a radiant crown, with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1927.
The reverse features a majestic American bald eagle resting upon a rocky ledge, holding an olive branch as rays of sunlight rise behind it. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE complete the design.
The 1927 Philadelphia Peace Dollar is particularly appealing to collectors because of its relatively low original mintage of just 848,000 coins, making it one of the lower-mintage Philadelphia issues in the series.
Struck in 90% silver, this historic dollar contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, combining precious-metal content with the artistic beauty and historical significance of early 20th-century American coinage.
Whether collected as part of a complete Peace Dollar date-and-mint-mark set, a collection of classic United States silver dollars, or a broader American numismatic type set, the 1927 Peace Dollar represents an important and collectible issue from the interwar period.
