1924-D Buffalo Nickel — Denver Mint
1924-D Buffalo Nickel — Denver Mint
Own a classic piece of American numismatic history with this 1924-D Buffalo Nickel, struck at the Denver Mint during the Roaring Twenties.
Designed by renowned sculptor James Earle Fraser, the Buffalo Nickel, also known as the Indian Head Nickel, was introduced in 1913 and remained in production through 1938. Its distinctive design celebrates the heritage of the American West and remains one of the most recognizable coins in United States history.
The obverse features a powerful right-facing portrait of a Native American, created by Fraser using artistic inspiration from several Native American individuals. The inscription LIBERTY appears along the upper-right rim, with the date 1924 positioned beneath the portrait.
The reverse displays an American bison standing upon a raised mound, surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and FIVE CENTS. The D mint mark identifies this coin as a product of the Denver Mint.
The 1924-D Buffalo Nickel is a desirable collectible due to its relatively low original mintage and its scarcity in well-preserved condition. Many examples circulated extensively, making coins with strong details and attractive original surfaces particularly appealing to collectors.
